VINNIE AND THE KAPPA

VINNIE AND THE KAPPA

Vinnie Nekojin loves to go fishing on Saturdays in the summer. He has a special place that he likes to go, which just happens to be where a kappa, a Japanese water spirit, likes to go fishing also.

KANBEI'S STORY

KANBEI'S STORY

Here's a little story about the little black cat who we call "Kanbei" - who escaped from a nearby veterinary office and wasn't caught until several days later by Aoi. I was thinking about this, and thought, "What if little Nomi went out to find Kanbei...what would have transpired between a formerly homeless kitty (Nomi) and one that was?" As it ultimately turned out, Kanbei became a member of our family for a while and then went to live with a loving family, whose mom works in of all places...a pet shop...meaning lots of toys and stuff. This story also marks the unannounced arrival of "Noir"...who is a permanent member of our family and a major "player" in Catman Comix.

UNCLE HAYATO'S ART CORNER (Sort of) WITH SOME HELP FROM THE CATKIDS

UNCLE HAYATO'S ART CORNER (with a little help from Mr. Nekojin who is still in "Basho-mode" and his catkids). Humor goes a long way in making a work of art, as demonstrated by Zeshin Shibata's rendering of a singing frog, who strums an instrument as his froggie friends sing along. From an album titled Bokurin Hikka, this is a fine example of the unusual urushi-e technique of painting with lacquer, which Zeshin (1807-91) invented.
